Studying Zinc Coatings with EQCM-D and EIS

This Application Note explores the electrochemical deposition of zinc in the presence and absence of polyethylene glycol (PEG), a commonly used additive, to investigate its influence on the deposition process and resulting zinc layers. Layer thickness, surface roughness, and deposition behavior are characterized under both conditions, providing insights into how PEG affects zinc coating formation.
The eSorptionProbe enables this multimodal characterization by combining Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation Monitoring (EQCM-D) with complementary electrochemical measurements, including Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), in a standard electrochemical beaker setup. By monitoring frequency and dissipation at the fundamental resonance and multiple harmonics alongside electrochemical responses, the system provides a comprehensive view of zinc deposition and coating properties.
