Multimodal, Native-Environment Measurement Is Streamlining Surface Analysis.
In the October issue of Photonics Spectra, Stephen Buynovsky of Micro Photonics and Frank Gehring and Adam Olsson of 3T analytik explain how combining QCM-D, Raman spectroscopy, and electrochemistry on one sensor surface lets researchers follow interfacial films as they form in liquid.
Tracking dissipation across multiple overtones separates a rigid film from a soft, hydrated layer. In one study, Raman bands near 476 and 556 cm−1 linked a nickel hydroxide electrode's resonant frequency shift to its conversion into NiO(OH) during cycling.
